Declarations for Wholeness

This is a season in which God is inviting us to step into His provision in Christ to become whole in every area of our lives, so that we can fulfill our God-ordained destiny.

“Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospers.” 3 John 2

The Word of God states that:

”Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.”  (Job 22:28)

“He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions” (Ps.107:20)

Taking these scriptures by faith, let us declare what the Word is saying:

God’s amazing grace is healing every area in my soul that has been traumatized.

Grace and peace is multiplied to me as I grow in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

I declare that my soul is being brought into wholeness, so that I will prosper in all things and I will be in perfect health.

It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.

” I have been crucified with Christ [that is, in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body I live by faith [by adhering to, relying on, and completely trusting] in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”  Gal.2:20 Amplified Bible.

Look to see what Father God is doing and listen to what He is saying

This is the lifestyle that Jesus modeled for us, namely to do nothing, except what we see our Father in heaven is doing and to say nothing, except we hear what He is saying.

“Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. 20 For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel.” John 5:19-20

“Then Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.”  John 8:28

“Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” Matt.28:20

The Lord is always with us and when we bring a situation before Him, asking Him to show us what He is doing and saying in that situation, He will surely do so.  The secret is to ask in trust!

Many times when I have prayed for people to get freedom from harassing situations and traumatic memories, I have simply led them to look at what Jesus was doing and to listen to what He was saying in that situation.

A young woman was gloriously set free from paranoia when she looked with her spiritual eyes, seeing Jesus walk into the traumatic memory when a burglar stepped through an open window into her room.  She saw Jesus standing between her and the burglar and He comforted her with the Word, “Do not fear, I am with you always”.   All fear was gone and she was filled with joy and peace with a new picture in her memory.

Whatever our situations might be, when the Lord is invited into it while we watch and listen to see and t hear what He is doing and saying, we receive a paradigm shift and our perception changes.

As we receive His Word on the situation, we start declaring it until it fills our mind and emotions with peace.

The Power of the Blood of Jesus

Salvation, forgiveness, inner healing, physical healing, deliverance and a life of victory in the glory all start with the Blood of Jesus.

If we get a revelation of the power of the precious blood of Jesus, we will always be in the position of victorious living in the abundant life that Jesus purchased for us on the cross!

FORGIVENESS through the Blood of Jesus.

The blood of Jesus was shed for the forgiveness of our sin, once and for all.  Because of the tremendous price that Jesus paid for our freedom, He also expects us to forgive those who trespass against us, just as He forgave us our debt.  This has to be an ongoing way of living – up to seventy times seven times.

Unforgiveness and bitterness in our hearts invite the tormentors according to Matt.18:23-35.

Ask God to give you the grace to forgive – not only those who have wounded you, but also to forgive yourself because of the price that Jesus paid for your freedom.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 1:8-9

When the Lord forgives us, He never thinks of it again:  Heb.8:12/Ps.103:14/Is.43:25

“For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more” (Heb.8:12)

Jesus was shedding His blood for us from Gethsemane to the cross.

He was sweating blood through the agony of His soul in Gethsemane.

He was beaten with sticks, then scourged with 39 stripes, paying the price for our healing. He was bleeding inwardly (bruised for our iniquities), chastised for our peace.

The crown of thorns was beaten into His head with sticks, then He carried the cross on the Via Dolorosa on a bleeding body.  After that He was crucified – the Lamb of God without sin, paying the ultimate price of obedience to death so that we can go free.  Then the sword was stuck into His side, causing water and blood to come forth, signifying the coming forth of His bride from His side. This is a mystery.

The life is in the blood and through His death and resurrection He gave us life and life more abundantly (John 10:10).

“Surely He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
But he was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.”

Isaiah 53:4-5

The blood of Jesus also brought us nigh unto Him.

But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

Through the Blood an new living way was opened for us to enter into communion-union with God:

Therefore brethern, since we have full freedom and confidence to enter into the Holies of holies by the power and virtue in the blood of Jesus….. Heb.10:19-20 Amplified Bible

We have been redeemed from the curse of the law through the blood of Jesus and entered into grace, by which we stand!

The blood of Jesus did all these things for us (and more) and as we receive all that He provided for us by faith, we step into a new and living way of abundant life.

“It is finished!”

When we call the power of the blood against any demonic activity, it has to bow and depart!  The devil knows the power of the blood, but do we?!

Because of the finished work of Calvary, the healing power of the Blood of Jesus and the resurrection power of the Holy Spirit, we can receive total healing in our soul – mind (memory, consciousness, sub-conscious mind, imagination, intellect and thoughts), emotions and will.

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

3 John 2

The heart consists of the soul (mind, imagination, thoughts, will and emotions as well as the conscience).

The wounds in our heart which we have been suffering from for maybe a long time, will be healed and we can experience the freedom and liberty in the spirit to serve God fully.  As we receive God’s forgiveness, our conscience is cleared of all guilt, shame and condemnation.

Everything in our being gets re-calibrated by the Holy Spirit with the sound of heaven, resounding in an unspeakable joy.

Wholeness in the soul results in healing of the body and we come in alignment with the Holy Spirit as we submit ourselves to His rule and guidance in our lives.

We want to encourage you to set time apart for fasting and praying as you allow the Holy Spirit to do a deep work of sanctification and healing in you.

You will come forth with a fresh anointing to fulfill your call and destiny in Christ.  Hallelujah!

Healing Prayers for Trauma

Walking with a Pure Heart

Walking with a Pure Heart

Many are walking around with deep hurts and wounds and in this season God is dong a work in the heart of His bride to get her in shape for the great glory that is going to be poured our on the earth. He is bringing old issues to the surface through dreams, conversations, even through movies and various other ways. His purpose and intent is to cleanse and heal hearts through His precious blood so that we can fulfill our call and destiny in Christ while walking in the authority of our true identity.

Discovery Of My Heart Condition

One of the first revelations I received from the Lord was about the heart. At the time I was leading a house meeting with ladies from many different denominations and I was very excited to teach about a pure heart. I was fully persuaded that my heart was absolutely pure until I came home after the meeting. I led the prayer in asking the Lord to show us anything in our hearts that could grieve Him.

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

Jer.17:9-10 KJV

The result was a deep conviction of the Holy Spirit of sin, righteousness and judgment (John 16:8). The fear of the Lord fell heavily upon me as I saw the condition of my heart. For three days I was in the river of God, undergoing a deep cleansing with much repentance and forgiveness. Through the years God has graciously done a work of sanctification in me, but yet there are deeper levels which I am discovering now by the illumination of the Holy Spirit.

Let us earnestly pray like King David, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my thoughts; and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23-24)

Understanding Of The Heart’s Postion And Its Contents

Let’s take a look at the heart and get an understanding of its position and its content.

You are a spiritual being, having a soul and living in a body.

The heart is the central station of our being through which everything moves – our thoughts (Ps.19:14) emotions (Phil.1:7), choices (Ps.9:1), impressions and receptivity (Acts 2:37), as well as our conscience (1 John 3:21), which is part of our spirit being. In other words the heart consists of the soul (thoughts, emotion and will) and a part of our spirit man, the conscience.

Out of the abundance of our hearts our mouths speak (Luke 6:45). If we bring forth good, it will produce blessing; if we bring forth evil, it will produce curses.  Often our hearts are full of toxins which defile us when we speak about it (Matt.15:18-20). Our mouths will come under control of the Holy Spirit to bring forth blessing in our lives because we will eat the fruit thereof.

The heart stores all negative memories of trauma and it is necessary that the archives be cleared out through forgiveness and repentance. Then we apply the precious blood of Jesus to cleanse and heal us through the power of the Holy Spirit.

It is also with our hearts that we believe.

But what does it say?

“The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”

(that is, the word of faith which we preach):

that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus

and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead,

you will be saved. Romans 10:8-9 NKJV

Guarding Our Hearts

We need to watch over our hearts.

Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life.

Proverbs 4:23 – Amplified Bible

Our five natural and spiritual senses are the gateways into our heart.  Therefore those senses need to be sanctified by the blood of Jesus and we need to turn away from anything that defiles.

The Lord promises that the pure in heart shall see God. (Matt.5:8)

God Wants to Heal and Restore Your Heart!

The Lord has made full provision for you through His amazing sacrifice on the cross.  He wants you to fulfill your call and your destiny in Christ and bring you into a glorious freedom in His abundant life! Let us journey into your freedom together!

Prayer:  Father God, we come to You in the name of Jesus, asking that You will show us anything in our hearts that are not pleasing Your sight.  Please give us the grace for repentance and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Thank You, Lord. Amen.

Now, simply make a list of anything that comes to your remembrance. Do not try to work on it by the natural mind. Simply trust the Lord to show you and give you the grace to work it through until your memory is cleansed, your burden is gone and the trauma of it is removed forever.

Sometimes we do not want to remember deep hurts, offenses and traumatic events.  But know that God’s loving kindness has made provision for us through the blood of His Son that we can receive complete healing and restoration to walk free of all remembrance of trauma. Liberty in the Spirit is your portion!  Hallelujah!

Power over Snakes and Scorpions…

God speaks in parables and gives you understanding line upon line.

After the FB video I shared, revelation has started to unfold and I sense this is a very “Now” word for the body of Christ:

The situation in the natural was that I was sitting on an enclosed porch, eating my breakfast.  When I got up to go into the house I noticed a movement from the corner of my eye and lo and behold a snake was laying on a reed screen next to where I was sitting, with its head poised, looking straight at me, tongue wiggling.

Needless to say I was caught by surprise and shocked since it was an enclosed porch and I didn’t notice it when I was sitting there.

My first reaction was to open the porch door and to close the glass sliding door to the living room.  At first I was contemplating whether I should just let it go, hoping that it would go outside through the open door of the porch.

At this point the scripture came up in my spirit,

“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Luke 10:19

This changed my mindset and my whole approach as I received the Sword of the Spirit.  I knew I had to kill the snake and crush the head, although I was still apprehensive (remembering Paul who was bitten in his hand), but then reminded that he shook it off and it did not harm him!

I looked for something to kill it with and found a stainless steel spatula that is used for a barbecue.  It had a serrated edge on the one side and a sharp edge at the bottom.

Now I was after the snake, my heart pounding. But I knew I had to go after it. At first I was chopping it with the front end, but made no impact on it.  It was moving towards the outside door or the porch and again, for a moment, I thought to let it go, but suddenly I realized that it was a prophetic act and as the anointing came on me, all fear left.

Another Scripture came up,

Psalm 18:36-38(NKJV)

…You enlarge my steps under me, And my feet have not slipped. I pursued my enemies and overtook them, And I did not turn back until they were consumed. I shattered them, so that they were not able to rise; They fell under my feet.”

I cleft the head of the snake in two and had a sense of tremendous triumph in the spirit.

About two weeks before, we also found a snake on the same porch and let it go because it was a black Florida snake, which is not poisonous.  We found the small openings on either side of the porch which was the only way in which it could enter, BUT I didn’t close it off!  Guess what!?  God was loudly speaking to me!

When pondering upon the prophetic significance I sensed that God was demonstrating a warning and at the same time an empowering through His Word.

Several points stood out:

1)  I was caught by surprise and shocked by the fact that it was so close to me and I didn’t see it.

Message:  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Pet.5:8 KJV).

Remember, the enemy loves the surprise element, but forewarned is forearmed.  We have nothing to fear, for Christ has already wrought the victory for us!

Be clothed in the armor of light (Rom.13:12), which is the same as described in Eph.6:10-18 and stay under the shelter of the Almighty in the secret place of His Presence (Ps.91).

2)   I was intimidated with fear and contemplated to let it go. (This snake was not black, but brown with stripes and a yellow belly – about 3-4 ft long and I realized it could be poisonous, which was confirmed later).

The Word of the Lord came up in my spirit and gave me strength.

Message:  We can never give in to fear, but have to draw on the resurrection power of the Holy Spirit to overcome, trusting the Lord for protection while being armed with the Sword of the Spirit!  And do not think or hope the devil is just going to go away.  He is looking for entry into your house!

3)  We can never give up halfway, but have to pursue our enemy until his head is crushed.

Message: Pursue the devil till there is nothing left of him. Do not have mercy on the devil, but have mercy on the person hosting him.

4)  I had a warning, but didn’t close the openings.

Friends, I sense that the Lord is warning us to be on full alert for the enemy is sneaky and subtle.  He will come in through any opening in our hedges.

Let us ask the Lord to show us anything in our lives that can give the enemy an entry way.  Then deal with it!  Do not postpone or neglect this instruction.

Repent of every sinful thought, word and action that you know of.

If the Holy Spirit shows you anything, repent of it, forgive everybody in the situation, test your heart for wrong thoughts and attitudes, bless your enemies and make sure your conscience is clear.

Take communion on a regular basis and plead the blood of Jesus over you and your household and everything in your territory.

In my quiet time with the Lord this morning I became so aware of the fact that He is listening for the sound that we carry.  Is it a sound that glorifies Him?  Is it praise and worship and adoration for who He is, or is it self-centered?  Let our focus shift back to His glory and our tongue rejoice in His goodness and grace!  He always leads us in triumph! (2 Cor.2:14)

Let those new songs come forth out of your spirit, glorifying the Lord for His magnificence!  And let Him sing over you with rejoicing! (Zeph.3:17)

“Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned.” (1 Tim.1:5 KJV)

This is one of the “snakes” that we have to be watchful for, since it is very sneaky and devious.  It is a seducing, deceiving spirit that brings confusion and is out to destroy our destiny.

The Jezebel spirit is targeting leaders and expecially prophets, creeping into businesses and ministries to usurp authority.  Sometimes we get ensnared by this spirit without realizing it and it is wise to get fully acquainted with all its strategies.

You can step into your God-given authority in Christ to overcome this spirit so that you can be freed up to fulfill your destiny in Christ, living a life of victory and blessing!

“The Warrior Bride is Arising!”

I woke up with the words, “The Warrior Bride is Arising!”

Remember, the term “Bride” has no gender in the spirit realm, but is the term for the company of overcoming believers that have been in the Holy Spirit’s School of preparation for the coming of the Bridegroom (Rev.19:7-8).

God has been strengthening His people in the secret place with the power of His might.

”That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness.” (Col.1:10-11)

This inner strengthening is happening in the secret place of His Presence to stand in the day of trial, which is soon coming on the earth.

It is also a time of equipping to know your enemy, the devil, who is walking around like a roaring lion to see whom he may devour.

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:  Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.”  1 Peter 5:8-9 (KJV)

Remember that the enemy will do anything to prevent you from fulfilling your destiny, so rise up and take authority against him, submitting to God and His calling on your life, resist the enemy and he shall flee from you! (James 4:7).

Our warfare is not against flesh and blood and our weapons are not fleshly, but mighty in God….

So do not fight your brothers and sisters in Christ who come against you, but discern the spirit behind their actions, take authority over it and use the mighty weapons of the Word of God (the two-edged Sword of the Spirit), high praises (Ps.149), the Name of Jesus and the power of the blood, the Word of your testimony, while you do not love your own life unto the death (Rev.12:11).

”Finally my brethren be strong (dunamo) in the Lord and in the power (kratos) of His might (ischus).  Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places”.    Eph. 6:10-12  KJV

Being fully armored in Christ, with the Sword of the Spirit in our mouths and equipped with hinds’ feet to be sure-footed in high places, shod with the preparation of the Gospel of peace,  we are compelled by love to set the captives free with the Breaker anointing of Isaiah 61.

By being saturated in the Word, Praises and much praying in Tongues, the Holy Spirit has been strengthening those who seek the face of the Lord with a fresh passion to bring His Kingdom through deliverance, healing of the soul and outstanding miracles.

The Source of our victory is on the inside – Christ the Hope of Glory in our hearts! (Col.1:27).  While our eyes are fixed on the Lord and we draw from His power, the victory is assured.

“Greater is He that is within you than he that is in the world”

(1 John 4:4)

As we draw on the power of the Holy Spirit, He always leads us in triumph to diffuse that beautiful fragrance of the manifest presence of the Lord everywhere we go as we walk in the light of His countenance.

So don’t back up when the enemy comes against you or your loved ones.  Advance full throttle in the power of the Holy Ghost and pursue the enemy (not the person, but the evil power behind the actions) until his head is crushed! That is the portion of every true believer in Christ: Victory!

Just like King David, it is important to pursue the enemy until he is conquered:

“I pursue my enemies and overtake them;

I do not turn back until they are wiped out.

 I crush them, and they cannot get up;

they fall beneath my feet.

 You have clothed me with strength for battle;

You subdue my adversaries beneath me.” Ps 18:36-37

Too often we tolerate the enemy, especially Jezebel who wants to control, manipulate and intimidate and her cohorts, the Python spirit, Leviathan and the Religious spirit.

“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

 Luke 10:19  KJV

This is a message for the Bride to arise in the anointing and power of the Holy Spirit and, like Jesus, healing everyone who is oppressed by the devil. (Acts 10:38)

We have to know our identity as a warrior, our purpose to establish the Kingdom of God, being motivated by divine love.

Identity:    Being more than a conqueror through Him who loves us by His divine power on the inside and upon every true born-again, Spirit-filled believer.

Purpose:  To set the captives free, opening prison doors, bringing beauty for ashes, oil of joy for those who mourn, garments of praise to our Lord and King – to be His witnesses in all the earth.

Motivation:  Divine Love! (Divine love drives out all fear). The spotlight is not on us, it is on Jesus and what He came for – to destroy the works of the devil.

“For this purpose the Son of God was manifested that He might destroy the works of the devil”. (1 John 3:8)

While He was on earth He demonstrated the power of the Spirit for us, then He wrought the victory over the devil through His death on the cross.  After His resurrection He commissioned His believers to do the same works He did while on earth and greater works.  Then after His ascension, He poured out His equipping Spirit of power and might from on high through the baptism of the Holy Spirit with fire to establish His Kingdom.  Hallelujah!

We invite you to watch the video on this subject:  “The Warrior Bride”

Too often we tolerate the enemy, especially Jezebel who wants to control with witchcraft to manipulate and intimidate and her cohorts, the Python spirit, Leviathan and the Religious spirit.

”My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”  Hosea 4:6 (KJV)

To help you identify the evil spirits at work in your life, we are in the process of preparing some teaching materials to equip you with knowledge to do effective warfare.  So watch for the announcement to come forth in the coming weeks.

May God bless you with the anointing of an overcomer

Prophetic Word received for South Africa by Elsabe Briers-Bakkes on April 4th, 2017
I recently received a Word for SA:
The Word “Let the roar of the Lion of Judah arise in Africa” (see post of Feb.20th, 2017 on Fb page:
This encounter was quickened to me by the Spirit again and as I prayerfully pondered this Word, I sensed that the Holy Spirit is pouring out Prophetic intercession over South Africa like a soft, penetrating rain, causing it to ignite hearts with passionate prayers and petitions before the Throne of Grace, resulting in the Lion of Judah’s roar to come forth in power!
Amos 3:8 “The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord God hath spoken, who can but prophesy?”
As people are coming together to pray and intercede for our country, positioning themselves in humility to hear the sound of heaven, the Lion of Judah shall start roaring and as the sound of His roar is released in prophetic decrees through different groups, I saw it reverberating in waves over the land by word of mouth and media. As we join this sound in “One Voice” the Lion’s roar will recalibrate the sound of the land from fear, despair, frustration and hopelessness to hope and faith. It will be watering the land with streams of living water, bringing forth new life in the spirit.

Isaiah 31:4For thus hath the Lord spoken unto me, Like as the lion and the young lion roaring on his prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the Lord of hosts come down to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof.”
VISION: Then I saw a vision of crowds of people with picketing boards on which was written the Prophetic Word of the Lord.
I understood in the spirit that the Prophetic Word released by the Lion’s roar had taken root in their hearts and became like a slogan, which they carried over their heads (having taken over their minds, replacing fear and confusion) and it was coming out of their mouths as petitions before the throne of God.
They were not contending or protesting in the earth realm but their pleas, based on God’s own Word, were brought into the courts of heaven before the righteous Judge, awaiting His righteous judgment.
Luke 18: 7-8: ”And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

2 Chronicles 7:14 is coming alive in this season:
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
God is faithful to perform His Word and it shall not return to Him void, but shall accomplish everything that it was sent for! Hallelujah!
Father, in Jesus’ name we declare that it is Your Word of divine authority that will shift South Africa into alignment with Your Kingdom.
Let divine encounters come forth as we enter Your courts with praise, seeking Your face in the Holiest. Let the Lion of Judah roar into our hearts as we come to you in humble submission, interceding for divine intervention in our land. And as we roar with You, releasing Your sound into every facet of society, let the enemy’s plans be brought to nought by the authority and power of Your Word. Let Kingdom decrees reverberate through our land, filling the airways with the Lion’s roar, annihilating the threats of the devil. Your Name be glorified, Father, Your Kingdom come, Your will be done in South Africa as it is in heaven. Amen.
Now, let us position ourselves, joining with intercessory groups to do our part and be united in “ONE VOICE” with God’s voice, which is the final authority over our future and the destiny of South Africa.
Job 22:28
“Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.”
I also want to encourage you to read the previous prophecies over South Africa and call it forth, bringing it into the heavenly court room. – 40 Fire Prophecies compiled by André Baard – One Voice magazines and postings of other prophecies on FB

Finding Destiny in the Midst of Chaos – Gretchen Rodriguez

Finding Destiny in the Midst of Chaos, by Gretchen Rodriguez

Sometimes destiny unfolds in the most unusual circumstances. For me, everything changed when we moved back to the States, after serving on the mission field for nine years. We decided to move to California and become members of our dream church, Bethel. I was thrilled! Little did I know that a life-changing adventure was about to begin.
The journey with the Lord always guides us beyond ourselves. It leads us away from our “do” and straight into our “who”. This was exactly what I was about to discover. Though I fully believed I would continue in ministry, it wasn’t God’s top priority. His priority was, and always is, to help us understand exactly who we are in His eyes.
Weeks after being accepted on the church’s dance team, I injured my back. It was bad and I was devastated. I’d studied and taught ballet since I was three years old. I’d wanted to be on Bethel’s dance team for years. Now what was I going to do?
For six months, I did little more than lay flat. Though I wasn’t angry, I certainly had a lot of questions. We’ve all experienced times when God didn’t make sense and this was one of those times.
Have you ever felt like you were losing grip and unless God was hanging on to you, you’d be sucked into an emotional black hole? That’s how I felt. I had spent most of my life pouring into others through ministry and dance and now all I could do was—nothing. Nothing but focus on Him and worship. And that was all He wanted.
Though God never afflicts us with suffering and pain, He is the Master of reaching us in their midst. He began to teach me who I was, in greater depth than I had ever known.
During this time, God was fine-tuning my identity. Suddenly, I wasn’t Gretchen the missionary, Gretchen the dancer, or Gretchen the pastor. I was just—me. Known and loved by God. Hidden in His presence and enjoying every moment of it. I lost all desire to “do” anything. I was perfectly happy being a lovesick bride.
God knows how to use situations, which would otherwise bring devastation, and use them for our good. He’s a faithful Father. The victories we gain in the wilderness, become golden truths imprinted upon our souls, which can never be erased. Never despise the difficult times, because it is out of them that the greatest breakthroughs erupt.
From this place of total surrender, He resurrected a secret desire in my heart—a desire to become a writer. I began to take risks and do things I never thought I would. Titles no longer made me brave. His voice did. Courage lifted me up and wrapped me securely in His arms. I was strong because I found fulfillment in being His child.
I became a writer, not because I was searching for identity, but because I had found it. Out of heart-wrenching disappointment, I found my purpose—to be His and to be completely at peace with that and nothing more.
All that I did began to flow effortlessly from my love for Him. It was no longer about doing things to find my place, it was about doing things because I had found my reason for doing them.
Now, four years later, my back is getting stronger, I’m an assistant leader for our dance team and authoring books with Brian Simmons. Most importantly, I’ve learned how amazing it is to simply be me.
If you have found yourself in similar circumstances, where nothing is turning out the way you thought it would, hang on! You’re on the verge of your greatest breakthrough! God is calling you higher—to a life that challenges you in the most beautiful ways. He wants you to dream with Him, to hope in the face of countless disappointments, to believe in miracles, and to be so confident in His love for you that your life explodes with purpose!

“God, the searcher of the heart, knows fully our longings, yet he also understands the desires of the Spirit, because the Holy Spirit passionately pleads before God for us, his holy ones, in perfect harmony with God’s plan and our destiny.” Romans 8:27 The Passion Translation

He crowns me with lovingkindness and tender mercies – Ps.103:4

I woke up with this verse this morning and then was led to the commentary from the Treasury of David that says it all:

“Who crowneth thee with loving kindness and tender mercies. Our Lord does nothing by halves, he will not stay his hand till he has gone to the uttermost with his people. Cleansing, healing, redemption, are not enough, he must needs make them kings and crown them, and the crown must be far more precious than if it were made of corruptible things, such as silver and gold; it is studded with gems of grace and lined with the velvet of lovingkindness; it is decked with the jewels of mercy, but made soft for the head to wear by a lining of tenderness. Who is like unto thee, O Lord! God himself crowns the princes of his family, for their best things come from him directly and distinctly; they do not earn the crown, for it is of mercy not of merit; they feel their own unworthiness of it, therefore he deals with tenderness; but lie is resolved to bless them, and, therefore, he is ever crowning them, always surrounding their brows with coronets of mercy and compassion. He always crowns the edifice which he commences, and where he gives pardon he gives acceptance too. “Since thou wast precious in my sight thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee.” Our sin deprived us of all our honours, a bill of attainder was issued against us as traitors; but he who removed the sentence of death by redeeming us from destruction, restores to us more than all our former honours by crowning us anew. Shall God crown us and shall not we crown him? Up, my soul, and cast thy crown at his feet, and in lowliest reverence worship him, who has so greatly exalted thee, as to lift thee from the dunghill and set thee among princes.” – Treasury of David – Commentary.
